           SKADooSH Dance Company

Picture
SKADooSH challenges people's perception of contemporary dance by offering high-quality performances and workshops beyond traditional venues which inspire, entertain and make people happy!

We work with a multiplicity of techniques and value input from external resources and collaborators to create fresh new works.

We make contemporary dance accessible to a range of communities and age groups in order to generate a broader interest in and understanding of contemporary dance.

We create opportunities for people to engage with our aesthetic processes through access of online rehearsals videos, workshops and performances.

We believe in the financial, cultural and social benefits of dance.

Artistic statement

The company has a unique approach to present contemporary dance as family friendly and entertaining: the use props. We believe that tangible objects on stage helps the audience to relate with the movement vocabulary and associate imageries to construct meaning.

We want our work to be exciting, innovative and enjoyable. Prioritising the experience of the audience without diminishing our aesthetic research and the overall quality of our performances.

We collaborate with artists from different disciplines to make our work fully dimensional and to give opportunities to the audience to admire the combination of the various elements into a single performance.

We are committed to ensure proper and fair payment to artists involved in the company’s projects. We believe paying artists for the work they do value their input and enhance the quality of the working environment as well as the project.

We encourage young people to experience the arts by providing participatory workshops about the company’s current project as we believe in the benefits of the arts on the physical and mental wellbeing of people.

We perform in conventional and unconventional spaces to widen our reach and bring new audience to theatre venues.

We regularly update our website with videos, photos and comments about our past, current and future opportunities to keep our followers interested and to attract new ones.

We encourage theatre venues to programme more contemporary dance performances by presenting the company and its collaborators as approachable and reliable, and by providing professional services in term of promotional material and quality of our performances and workshops.

We establish long-lasting relationships with cultural organisations to build bridges between the demands from the audience, the opportunities for the artists and the facilities of the performance venues.

'It is no exaggeration to say that, apart from talent, intelligence, physical capability and beauty, our profession calls for the devotion of a nun, the willpower of a mountaineer, the bodily strength of a lion, the endurance of a long distance runner, the memory of an elephant, the industry of a bee and the discipline of a solider.'                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Maria Fay
